Lukasz Baka, cinematographer and technical chief of Film Spring Open will share his experience with FSO participants from working on the set of Natalie Portman’s directorial debut “A Tale of Love and Darkness”. Below you can read a brief description of his workshops which he plans to make at this year’s Film Spring Open Air.

Re-creating workflow of Natalie Portman’s directorial debut “A Tale of Love and Darkness” (Part I: Significance of colours. Part II: Live Grading)

In “A Tale of Love and Darkness” we used workflow which intensified possibilities of creative color correction. We wanted to be in control of every frame even when cameras were recording different scenes at the same time. We also knew that we would have to act quickly, unseen, during rehearsals and between shots. We saved time and generated more possibilities of creating color. Real-time technology allowed the creation of bold, expressive visual layer.

New production model classes: Structure of new photography department

Modern working conditions on the set require changes in the way cinematographer works. Detailed planning, co-operation with other divisions, skillful hardware configuration and organization of cinematographer’s department will make films cheaper and better. At the workshop we will discuss how the cinematographer’s department work and we’ll practically make scenes in multiple camera system.
