13 Hours. The Birth of Art.

Documentary / experimental / picture film / short film

Cinematography: Wilhelm Bielawa

In 2013, I made the project “13 Hours”. It was a documentation of the artistic activities of several leading Krakow artists. The project consisted of accompanying them continuously for 13 hours in their studios during the creative process. The result is thousands of photographs and an audio recording of the conversations we had about art during. A photo album was to be created from the material, but this never happened.

In our cultural circle, the number 13 evokes negative associations. But this is not everywhere and has not always been the case. In Hinduism, there is something divine in the number 13, our karma is written in it, in the Tarot the card 13 represents death in the sense of saying goodbye to the old and welcoming the new, and the ancient Egyptians believed that thirteen was the gateway to eternity. In this project I wanted to escape determinism, to go beyond fate. That’s why, 10 years later, I decided to save this material and build an extraordinary creation story – a film from photographs – from almost post-frame photographic material. Each of these situations has its own course, drama and climax; mixed together, they will tell a universal story about how a work of art is created, what the artist is thinking about, how much effort it takes to create in different media and techniques, what ideas and emotions are behind it. The artist-demiurge has something of the creator, touching the intangible in this way.

The film “13 Hours. The Birth of Art.” is in the editing stage. As we have no film stills, only photographs, our imagination has to add its own and for this reason sound is extremely important. I need support in terms of creating sound design (creating synchronic effects, producing non-obvious sounds) and composing music. Perhaps also finding an original narrative or a new language for editing these photographs. Working on this film is a large field for creative people. At the same time, it is a very visual film, with interesting photographs by Wilhelm Bielawa completing the whole. I invite you to cooperate with me.

So far I am producing the film myself, any artistic and financial support is very welcome.
