Screenings at the Film Spring Workshop.The Lost Town of Świteź (dir. Kamil Polak)

The real treat awaits you on the 18th of October. We will screen The Lost Town of Świteź, whose process of creation took 7 years. It’s director, Kamil Polak, is the tutor of our animation group.

The Lost Town of Świteź won over 25 awards at various film festivals, including the Best Animation Short  at Palm Springs International ShortFest 2011, Best Animated Film at Krakow Film Festival, Best Animation at New York City Short Film Festival, Best Short Film at  Las Palmas Film Festival, and for the First Film at Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

“Lost Town of Świteź” is an adaptation of a 19-th century romantic ballad by Adam Mickiewicz, Polish great poet, about a ghostly town submerged in the waters of a lake. The 20-minute film combines paintings with digital 3D technique using both CG animation and visual special effects to create an immersive aesthetic experience, inspired by religious iconography and Polish romantic painting. The film is set to a specially-commissioned full choral and orchestral piece by Irina Bogdanovitch.

“Lost Town of Świteź” merges in a beautiful way literature, painting, music and animation.

Kamil Polak

Animation director and supervisor of special effects. Graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Painting and of the Animation Department at the Film School in Łódź. The Visual effects supervisor of the Oscar winning film Peter and the Wolf (2008). The director of the outstanding animation The Lost Town of Switeź, which premiered at the International Film Festival Berlinale in 2011, screened at 150 international film festivals and won over 25 awards. An experienced commercials director including the series “Heart and Mind” and “Plush”. Since 2003, he has been collaborating with Krzysztof Warlikowski, Poland’s most influential theatre and opera director, creating animated projections for his spectacles.
