You are cordially invited to participate in the free online course Film of the Future: from script to leading an Actor using AI, which will be led by award-winning director Marcin Ziębiński. Edyta Jadowska will also join as a guest. Both tutors led Green Commercials for Małopolska Group at this year’s Film Spring Open!
MEETING ONE – HOW TO TELL A STORY IN COMMERCIALS AND MORE
We will talk about storytelling and the role of time constraints in building a narrative. Participants will learn how important it is to be able to convey a complete, understandable and emotionally engaging story in a short time. We will focus on the key elements of effective narration: the essence of the message and building tension that leads to a clearly defined punch line. We will talk about how to minimize unnecessary information so that every second of the spot has meaning for the recipient. We will also touch on the issue of different narrative structures used in advertisements from plot compression, the use of metaphors, shortened forms of storytelling and visual symbols that allow you to convey rich context in a minimum of time. We will discuss the differences between linear and non-linear narrative, as well as techniques that allow the viewer to quickly absorb the main message, even if the spot consists of just a few scenes. We will also talk about how to arouse specific feelings, such as joy, emotion or curiosity, which leads to stronger viewer engagement and remembering the message of the advertisement. We will discuss the hierarchy of information in advertising, or how to build a message so that the most important elements are immediately noticeable and memorable. Finally, we will extend these elements to feature films and series.
MEETING TWO – HOW TO LEAD ACTOR
We will discuss various directing methods that aim to facilitate collaboration with actors and extract the most authentic, engaging performances from them. At the beginning, we will discuss the Stanislavski technique, which introduced the concept of emotional truth and internal character motivation. The next stage will be an analysis of the Meyerhold method, which focuses on biomechanics and physical expression of the body. Then the Lee Strasberg method, based on Stanislavski’s system, but focused more on “emotional memory”. In the next part of the workshop, we will move on to an analysis of the Sanford Meisner method, which focuses on reaction and spontaneity. We will also discuss the Michael Chekhov method, which emphasizes the actor’s imagination and psychological gesture. The workshop will also address the issue of director’s collaboration with actors at different stages of production. Participants will learn how to build relationships based on trust, how to clearly communicate their visions and at the same time leave space for the actors’ creative input. We will discuss how to conduct rehearsals, how to react to acting problems that arise on set, and how to flexibly approach working with different techniques, depending on the individual preferences and working style of the actors. An important element of this part of the workshop will be the analysis of potential threats related to emotional pressure, stress, and acting challenges that may appear on set, as well as how the director should react to create a comfortable and professional working environment.
MEETING THREE – HOW TO COMBINE MODERN AI TECHNIQUES WITH CLASSIC FILMMAKING
We will talk about creative filmmaking using AI and combining it with traditional filming on set. We will start by introducing the role of AI in modern filmmaking. Participants will learn about the basic AI-based tools that support creators at every stage of production – from script, through shooting, to editing and post-production. We will discuss how AI can be used to generate scripts, create scene visualizations, storyboards, optimize the image and sound production process, and how it can support artistic decisions such as shot selection, editing dynamics, and creating special effects. The workshop will show how these tools can work with traditional film techniques, rather than replace them, creating new opportunities for filmmakers. Participants will learn how to combine traditional camera work with modern AI tools to achieve new narrative and visual possibilities.
Meeting dates:
13, 20, 27 November (Wednesdays) at 18:30 CET.
