Who is a costume designer?

The role and responsibilities of a costume designer.

Are you ready to become a film costume designer :)?

During our course the participants will learn how a film costume is made.

The phases of the costume designer’s work will be discussed in detail:

– script analysis

– working with the director, producer, set designer and cinematographer

– ways of visual communication

– possibilities and budget limits

– research and character building

– preparations

– fittings

– shooting set, working principles and team

 

We will also dive into the concept of historical costume and what the costume really is today.

We will make a costume analysis of a selected film art.

On the basis of a literary text or script, we will build a silhouette of the protagonist together.

Tutor

Małgorzata Karpiuk, born in 1985, has been designing costumes for feature films, documentaries, series, music videos and TV theatre since 2009. Her portfolio as a costume designer includes, among others
Oscar-nominated film “Quo Vadis, Aida?”, Sundance premiere film “Dolce Fine Giornata”, HBO series “Blindspotting” or Netflix’s “Absolute Debutants” and Radiohead’s music video “I Promise”. Her latest project “The Zone of Interest” directed by Jonathan Glazer, won the Grand Prix and FIPRESCI Award at the Cannes Film Festival and two Oscars (for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound).
