Arri, Script–Directing–Cinematography Group – “Comedy for Two Actors”

Group tutor: Maria Zbąska & Kazimierz Zbąski, Kazimierz Zbąski

During the work of Arri, Script–Directing–Cinematography Group – “Comedy for Two Actors”, we want to analyze together with participants how to create scenes that are funny yet not stupid. Together with the actors, we want to go through the process of creating dialogue. In our case, it is always a collaborative effort between the screenwriter, director, cinematographer, and actor.

We will run the workshop based on scenes from two comedies that we are preparing for production. Depending on the number and nationalities of the participants, we will read the screenplay and choose scenes that we will try to realize. We have scenes in Polish and in English. (If someone would like to work on a scene in another language, please let us know in advance.) The choice of scenes will depend on rehearsals with the actors. We also invite participants to present their own texts/screenplays/scenes. If any piece shows comedic potential, it will be added to actor rehearsals and production.

Together with actors, cinematographers, and screenwriters, we would like to examine the process of creating a comedy scene from script to shoot. It is extremely difficult and very rewarding. There is nothing better for us than having fun on set and seeing the audience smile. We guarantee the former; the latter can vary, but we will do everything in our power.

Step by step:

  • Reading the scripts and selected scenes. Joint selection of scenes — discussion.

  • Casting.

  • Rehearsals with actors. Working on the text.

  • Shooting the selected scene.

  • Editing and discussion of the completed scenes.
