We are back with the Modern Film Production Group addressed to young producers and students of film production during the Film Spring Open Workshop! This year our mentors will be Ewa Puszczyńska and Justyna Pawlak with Marta Szarzyńska as a tutor. Deriving from the experience of lecturers, future producers will analyze the current production model in search of future solutions.

The patron of the Modern Film Production Group is Piotr Woźniak-Starak, who pioneered a new production model in Poland and Europe, i.e. the model of a Creative Producer involved in the creation of a film at every stage of production. The partner of the Group is the Starak Family Foundation, the Honorary Patron of the “Imagine Yourself” competition.

The year 2023 brought many significant events for the film industry. It started with the popularization of GPT chat. Its wide possibilities raised the question: to what extent can artificial intelligence be used in film production? Can this tool help us all or threaten us? And where is the STORY in all this, a STORY that is born from experience and emotions, not data processing.

What are the alternatives for a young artist, producer: are feature films, documentaries and animations the only form of storytelling? What about new narratives: VR, AR, MR?

“Assuming that the Film Spring Open Workshop is aimed at young people who are at the beginning of their film careers, I suggest that this year’s workshops address both current topics and problems that have always accompanied producers, i.e. finances, production and distribution,”

says Marta Szarzyńska.

The topics covered in the course will include the following:

– production of the first film;

– handling microbudgets;

– marketing;

– analysis of the preparatory, shooting and post-production periods in terms of risk control;

– management of economics and production processes;

– methods of raising funds for project implementation;

– and above all, a modern, green production model.

In addition to workshops with the producer of “Songs about Love”, members of the group will be able to participate in masterclasses led by experienced representatives of the industry. The lecturers will include Oscar winner Ewa Puszczyńska and Justyna Pawlak (Watchout Studio). Jacek Nagłowski will support the group in the field of artificial intelligence.

Ewa Puszczyńska is one of the most famous and most successful Polish film producers, awarded with the European Film Award for the war drama “Quo vadis Aida?” by Jasmila Žbanić and the BAFTA Award for “Cold War” by Paweł Pawlikowski. Her CV includes: Oscar-winning “Ida”, “Kill it and leave this town” or “The Silent Twins”.

Justyna Pawlak: Head of Feature Production in Watchout Studio and Member of the Board, as well as a Polish Film Found Expert in script development program. She graduated from University of Silesia in Katowice with Master of Arts degree in Film & TV Production and from Film Academy in Krakow with Film Critic & Lecturer Certificate. Her international credits include cooperation with directors like: Steven Spielberg, Peter Greeneway and Aaron Schneider. Known from numerous features including “Get Low”, “Dark Crimes”, “The Coldest Game” and tv series such as: “39 i pół”- produced for TVN or “Infamy” produced for Netflix.
