Commercials Film Group

Group tutor: Daniel Jaroszek

During the 21st Film Spring Open Workshops, participants in the Commercials Film Group will create commercials under the theme “Kraków. This Is Where I Want to Live”, under the guidance of acclaimed director Daniel Jaroszek. Ahead of the Workshops, we are launching a commercial film screenplay competition!

How do you tell the story of a city that both preserves its history and designs its future? How do you present Kraków not only as a place to visit, but as a place where people want to stay, create, study, work, and grow?

The Film Spring Open Foundation invites you to participate in the “Kraków. This Is Where I Want to Live” Commercial Film Screenplay Competition, organized in cooperation with the Krakow Festival Office (KBF). This initiative is aimed at people who want to tell the story of contemporary Kraków in their own voice and transform an idea into an actual film production.

This is more than just a screenplay competition. It is an opportunity to experience the entire process — from the initial idea and project development to working on a film set during the Film Spring Open Workshops.

What should your story be about?

We are looking for stories that present Kraków from a new perspective.

Today, Kraków is not only a historic city center listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also a city of creativity, innovation, science, and entrepreneurship. It is a place where culture, technology, education, and development intersect.

You may draw inspiration from:

  • the energy of districts such as Wesoła, Podgórze, and Nowa Huta,
  • student life and future-oriented skills,
  • culture and creativity,
  • history and its contemporary relevance,
  • people who choose Kraków as a place to live and pursue their ideas.

The format is open. What matters most is authenticity, a fresh perspective, and the strength of the story.

The film based on the screenplay should be approximately 60 seconds long.

What awaits the winners?

The competition committee will select five winning projects, which the winners will have the opportunity to produce during the 21st Film Spring Open Workshops in Kraków (October 13–22, 2026) as part of the Commercials Film Group, led by director Daniel Jaroszek.

The winners will receive:

  • exemption from the Workshop participation fee,
  • a guaranteed place in the Advertising Film Group,
  • the opportunity to produce their own screenplay under the guidance of experienced mentors,
  • work in a professional creative environment,
  • an opportunity for further project development and potential use in the official promotion of the city.

The screenplays and films created remain the property of their authors.

At the same time, the competition partner — Krakow Festival Office (KBF) — may select one or more films created during the Workshops and offer their creators paid transfer of economic copyrights. The total budget allocated for acquiring selected projects is up to PLN 15,000 gross, and cooperation terms will be agreed directly between the creators and KBF.

Selected films may later be used in promotional activities for the City of Kraków.

How to apply?

To participate:

  1. Register on the Film Spring Open website
  2. Complete the application form
  3. Send your competition submission to biuro@filmspringopen.eu
Subject line: “Kraków. This Is Where I Want to Live”

May 21 – September 27, 2026

We are looking for more than screenplays. We are looking for a perspective.

How does Kraków look through the eyes of people who are only beginning to consider coming here? How do residents see it? What makes someone say:

“This is where I want to build my future.”

We are waiting for stories that go beyond the postcard image of the city and reveal its energy, people, and potential.

Kraków is waiting for your story.

See you at Film Spring Open Workshops!

Daniel Jaroszek – director and photographer – is constantly searching for compelling stories. He finds inspiration for creating unique worlds in shapes, colors, and light, but above all in people whose stories deserve to be told. Whether it is a thirty-second commercial, a music video for emerging artists, or a feature film, he approaches each project in the same way – he simply makes films. His enthusiasm and vision inspire project teams, motivating them toward creative and effective collaboration.

He has created branded content films for clients such as 4F, Samsung, and Wyborowa, and has directed commercials for some of the world’s leading brands, including McDonald’s, Lay’s, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Red Bull, Milka, and Adidas.

He was nominated for the prestigious New Director of the Year award at the Shots Awards 2019. He has also been recognized for Warsaw Fairytale About Street Food, a campaign for Kazar Studio, and his original short film Tempo.

Music videos are also among his strongest areas of work. His projects include Trofea by Dawid Podsiadło, nominated for the Fryderyk Music Award 2020 in the Music Video of the Year category and awarded for Best Direction at the Yach Film Festival, as well as BUBBLETEA by Quebonafide and Daria Zawiałow, Bez słów by The Dumplings, Świt by Daria Zawiałow, Świt by KRÓL and Igo, Kaonashi by Daria Zawiałow, and his most recent videos created for OKI’s latest album.

In 2022, as a photographer and director, he co-created the visual identity of Dawid Podsiadło’s album Lata Dwudzieste, for which he received the Golden Sword Award (Złoty Miecz) at the KTR Awards in the category Craft / Photography / Collage, recognizing him as Best Photographer in 2023.

Playing with perspective, distinctive colors, and carefully designed compositions are also among his trademarks in photography. Hardworking and charismatic, he knows exactly what he wants and consistently creates entirely new visual stories.

Daniel made his debut in feature filmmaking in 2022 with Johnny, for which he received the Janusz “Kuba” Morgenstern “Perspective” Award and numerous audience awards, including the Polish Film Awards and recognition at the Polish Film Festival.

In 2024, the series Forst premiered under his direction, followed later that year by the feature film Drużyna A(A).
