Casting Directing Course at Film Spring Open

We invite FSO participants to take part in a unique three-day block dedicated to casting directing (October 8–10).
Casting is a meeting with an actor and a great space for working on scenes created during the Workshops. That’s why we invite all Film Spring Open Workshop participants to attend open lectures and join the teams working on test shoots – especially cinematographers and sound engineers.

Together with students from AST Kraków and participants of the Casting Directing Course, we will be preparing and carrying out test shoots based on scenes from classic film scripts (“The Revenge”) as well as texts inspired by TikTok.

We encourage screenwriters and directors to collaborate. One block of test shoots with actors can be based on scenes from your scripts.
The casting process is an opportunity to test out scenes, relationships, and ideas that may become part of your short films. Studio workshops provide hands-on experience in working with scenes and the actor selection process.

Ewa Brodzka – Casting is my passion. I love making movies and I know how to do it! I have been involved in film production for many years. I did my first casting back in 1997 for A. Wajda’s film „Pan Tadeusz”. Since then I created the film casts for over 60 feature films and fictional series. The films that I cast have represented Polish Cinema at numerous festivals. For many years I worked closely with Andrzej Wajda at was casting his features, including the Oscar-nominated film „Katyń”. I also worked as a casting director in various other productions. Many Polish actors were involved in foreign productions based on my recommendation. I’m constantly broadening my horizons and looking for new talent – such as Zofia Wichłacz who was recognized by the Academy for the role in „Miasto 44”. Zofia was presented with the prestigious “Shooting Star” Award for the most promising young European actress (ceremony was held at the IFF in Berlin). Another young talent I discovered is Cyprian Grabowski who received a honourable mention as „Discovery of the Year” for the film „Ikar. Legenda Mietka Kosza”. I received the Weronika Migoń Award for casting direction in the film “Cicha Noc” by P. Domalewski. I am also a member of the International Casting Directors Network (ICDN). Feature films in which I was the casting director: „Chłopi” by D. Kobiela „Cicha noc” by P. Domalewski “Sweet Rush” , “Walesa”. Man of Hope”,“Katyń” by A.Wajda „Jutro idziemy do kina” by M. Kwieciński „Julia wraca do domu” by A.Holland. For fictional series, it is worth mentioning the following titles: „Chyłka” „Diagnoza”, „Czas honoru” and „Oficerowie”.
