Arri Cinematography & Directing Group

Group tutor: Wojciech Staroń

Programme of the Arri Directing & Cinematography Group

During the 21st Film Spring Open Workshop, participants in the Arri Directing & Cinematography Group, led by Wojciech Staroń, will have a unique opportunity to take part in the professional preparation of the feature film “Legacy”, directed by Aliaksei Paluyan and produced by Lava Films and Tamtam Film. Camera tests for the film will be carried out during the Film Spring Open Air.

I am planning to conduct various types of camera tests as part of the preparation for the feature film “Legacy”. The tests will involve director Aliaksei Paluyan and the two lead actors, including Bartek Bielenia. We invite the participants of the group to take part in the tests, also as assistants. At the same time, group participants will be able to develop and realise their own ideas.

The tests and trials we are planning to carry out include:

  • Make-up tests in different lighting conditions: outdoors and in real interiors using both natural and artificial light.
  • Costume tests outdoors at different times of day, with particular emphasis on twilight light.
  • Lens tests focused on image aesthetics in different lighting conditions.
  • Dramaturgical analysis of a scene. Participants will have an opportunity to work with selected scenes from the screenplay. Together with the director, we will analyse the text in search of the appropriate visual language for the film: staging, camera movement, lighting and colour palette.
  • Staging tests for outdoor scenes using a camera dolly and camera crane. Searching for the right location, camera movement and rhythm, as well as working with actors to build and bring out both the dramatic and visual qualities of the scenes.

As the activities carried out within the group will include actual preparatory tests for the feature film “Legacy”, the materials created as part of these tests and directly related to the preparation of the film will remain part of the creative process conducted by the Group Leader and the film’s producer. Copyright to the materials created as tests for the film will not be transferred to the participants of the group.

We invite you to join the Arri Fiction Film Directing & Cinematography Group and register for the 21st Film Spring Open Workshop, which will take place in Kraków from 13 to 22 October 2026.
