This is a rare opportunity to deeply immerse yourself in the art and craft of film music composition – both from the artistic and technical perspectives.
Each of us brings our own sensitivity to film. Our individual view of the world is a tremendous asset that makes our work unique. In autonomous creation, we have unlimited freedom. Composing music for film, however, is a bit different. Working with the moving image comes with a set of specific demands. The length of a scene, its dynamics, editing pace, the actors’ expressions – all have a crucial impact on the music.
How do we fit ourselves, the dramatic needs of the film, and the expectations of directors and producers into a single soundtrack?
During the workshop, I’d like us to build a solid foundation for working with film – whether you’re just taking your first steps in composing for screen or looking to develop your existing skills. The structure of the workshop allows us the flexibility to work with participants of all experience levels.
The workshop will follow a two-track format.
The theoretical part will take place in group sessions where we’ll discuss the technical and artistic aspects of composing for film, including:
-
syncing music with picture
-
creating templates
-
building cue lists
-
working with virtual instrument libraries
-
sampling and creating original sounds
-
collaborating with directors and producers
-
artistic world-building through music
-
preparing mock-ups
-
orchestration
-
preparing for and conducting recording sessions
-
mixing music
The practical part will focus on composition assignments. Participants will receive film materials and compose music based on specific briefs.
This will be individual work, with my support at every stage.
I want this part of the workshop to be as rich and engaging as possible.
I warmly invite you to join!
— Paweł Lucewicz
Participants are asked to bring their own gear (laptop, keyboard, headphones, etc.) that they normally work with.
