Film Spring Open: The Wawel Hackathon

We invite you to participate in the Wawel Hackathon between October 15 and 17, 2021!

This year, during the 16th Film Spring Open Workshop, with the financial support of the Małopolska Region, a Hackathon will be held to develop IT projects for the Wawel Royal Castle.

We want to stimulate the development of applications, games, and interactive projects, including VR and AR, which will help bring Poland and Wawel’s history closer to the visitors. Furthermore, we are interested in projects enabling the virtual reception of works of art, both while visiting Wawel in person and via the Internet. At the end of the Hackathon, we will choose one project that stands out. Thanks to interdisciplinary cooperation at our workshops, we believe that interdisciplinary teams will be created, which will implement projects together after the end of the Hackathon.

We want to encourage the film, and IT worlds to cooperate. We want to invite developers, graphic designers, VR and AR specialists, producers, sound engineers, and actors and film directors to work during the three-day competition. The new audience will often expect from creators and cultural institutions an interactive narrative that will transfer art to the programming world and vice versa.

The best project selected by Wawel Castle Management has a chance to be commercially implemented. During the Hackathon, you will have the opportunity to experiment and explore new solutions using professional AV equipment. We have an editing room, a photo and lighting equipment warehouse, and a projection room. The Royal Castle will allow you to shoot footage for the entire duration of the Hackathon.

The Hackathon will occur during the Film Spring Open – one of the largest educational and practical audiovisual workshops in Europe based on new technologies and tools that stimulate the future development of audiovisual arts. These are workshops for young filmmakers and audiovisual artists, creators of various fields, including IT, who work in professional conditions under the supervision of outstanding artists and technicians using the best AV equipment available on the global market.

During ten days of workshops, we offer a broad spectrum of professional and practical knowledge to those dedicated to the future of audiovisual production.
