We invite you to join the Canon Docudrama Group – an artistic creative group for passionate participants who want to experience a true filmmaking adventure and learn the art of teamwork. Under the guidance of Mariusz Konopka, producer, cinematographer, and editor with many years of experience, participants will go through the entire process of making a film: from idea, through script development and shooting, to editing and the premiere on the penultimate day of the Workshops. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a real film crew and create your own project together – with the chance of being broadcast on Planete.

At FSO 2024 we created three teams and three completely different film forms. Each project was exciting and proved that regardless of budget or experience, passion and collaboration can deliver extraordinary results.

Docudrama combines elements of fiction and documentary cinema. On the one hand, it draws from real events, authentic stories, and characters; on the other, it uses the tools of narrative film: staging, working with actors, and visual creation. It is deeply rooted in reality, yet told in an engaging, cinematic form. I want to encourage you to work in this genre, which gives creators enormous freedom and allows socially important issues to be addressed in a moving, artistic, and accessible way.

During the Film Spring Open Workshops in Kraków, the group will collectively choose the topic of the film and create its first foundations: strategy, initial script structure, and first footage. Participants will work as a team, dividing roles as in a real film production.

This process will result in a film born out of collective work, exchange of ideas, and collaboration. It is also an opportunity to learn how a film crew functions in practice, where not only individual talent matters but also the ability to cooperate and understand that film is a collective work. The result will be a docudrama project with its official premiere at FSO. For the shoot, we will use Canon equipment, which has accompanied me for years in both television and film productions.

Ahead of us are 10 days of a true filmmaking adventure – intensive work, but also a satisfaction that cannot be compared to anything else.

Mariusz Konopka, graduate of the Wrocław Film School, has been working with Canon equipment on his projects for years. He gained experience on the sets of films by J.J. Kolski and Filip Bajon, and as an independent producer he has created over a dozen films broadcast by major television networks. During the workshops, he will share his knowledge of how to make meaningful cinema even with limited resources, and how to turn the dream of a film into a finished project.
